It can be difficult to reduce the endplay on E4OD units with spline or sun-shell wear. Shims are not available in a pre-cut form to reduce rear component driveline wear. When driveline wear is excessive, sealing ring and thrust wear increases. As the lower unit wear increases, OEM selective thrust washers are not thick enough to compensate. Excessive endplay is often mis-corrected by adding thicker shims to the pump surface. Sonnax now offers a shim 36402-Z to compensate for drive line wear. This shim together with OEM thrust washer material will allow a precise endplay adjustment. The .010" thick shim is to be used between the 4 tanged thrust washer and rear planetary assembly. This shim lifts the sun shell as well as the drums. It does not reduce the output shaft free play.
