It can be difficult to reduce C6 unit end-play with spline or sun-shell wear. Shims are not available in a pre-cut form to overcome component drive-line wear and/or re-machined pump. When drive-line wear is excessive, sealing ring and thrust wear increases. As the lower unit wear increases, OEM selective thrust washers are not thick enough to compensate. Excessive end-play is often mis-corrected by adding thicker shims to the pump surface. Adding too much shim material to the pump area will push the sealing rings toward a minimal drum contact. Sonnax now offers shims to compensate for drive-line wear. These shims together with OEM thrust washer material will allow precise end-play adjustment. The 36428-Z is a 6 slotted, .010" thick shim to be used between the 6 tanged thrust washer and 3 pinion rear planetary assembly.
