On Honda 4 speed transmissions, the mainshaft 2nd gear wears severely from contact with the 2nd clutch needle roller bearing. This bearing also needs frequent replacement due to wear. The wear on the gear and the bearing is due to the axial thrust load on the assembly. Replace the needle bearing with Sonnax part number 88406-SP, 88406B, or 88406C. These high quality bronze thrust washers are designed to more readily withstand the wear and axial thrust load of the mainshaft 2nd gear assembly.
