The GM 200-4R transmissions had a problem of wearing out the original stator support. It's always recommended that the stock input stator support be swapped out with this upgrade heavy-duty, heat-treated style. It is not uncommon to see half of the splines worn down upon inspection. Do not reuse a worn stator support it will eventually fail and take your torque converter out at the same time.
