OEM stator support shafts in 4L60 and 4L60-E transmissions frequently overheat and need to be replaced. Current aftermarket replacements have inherent manufacturing flaws that can cause transmission failure. The sleeve inside the shaft can rotate, blocking off oil flow and causing transmission failure. The aftermarket sleeves are held in place using only Loctite, which makes it impossible to determine if the sleeve will stay put or rotate after only minimal use. Another problem is that metal chips produced during manufacturing become trapped between the sleeve and the stator support shaft. After the shaft is installed and the unit pressurized, the chips flow through the transmission and cause damage. The Sonnax 4L60 & 4L60E stator support shaft kit 77918S-K eliminates sleeve rotation by mechanically fastening the sleeve to the stator support shaft. Sonnax also offers an improved stator support shaft 77918S-1K for 1998 and newer 4L60-E transmissions with 300mm torque converters that prevents sleeve rotation. The improved stator support shaft has a sleeve that is secured with Loctite and a set screw and is 100% tested for cross leakage. The Sonnax replacement stator support shaft includes pressed-in front and rear stator shaft bushings 77002B and 35007A. Note: The 77918S-1K stator support shaft is used for 1998 and newer 4L60-E transmissions equipped with Generation III Chevy small block V-8 engines and a 300mm torque converter. This part is longer than the early 4L60-E stator support shaft and cannot be interchanged.
